I got through five books in the past month - one of which was a review copy and a couple of which had been on my TBR list for longer than I care to admit! Though I enjoyed all of these, I'd have to say that my favourite, hands-down, was The Opposite of Loneliness. I went into it without much in the way of expectations, and came out of it with my mind more than somewhat blown!

Other things you might have missed:

That's about it for my month - the end of the month got pretty busy at work, so I am still trying to find time to catch up on replying to comments (I'm so sorry - I'm not ignoring you guys, I promise!) and, of course, get back to reading!

What about you guys? Did I miss any major bookish or otherwise things that you guys got up to in the last month?

  1. First of all, I LOVE the picture you chose for your monthly wrap up! It makes me wish I was on the beach instead of in an office. I've heard so much about The Opposite of Loneliness that I'm convinced I need to read it. My chancellor (or past chancellor, I guess?) even quoted a part of it at this year's graduation ceremony (which I did not attend but heard 2nd hand from my friends). That's pretty cool. I'm excited for another month of reading - esp. A Complicated Kindness with you!!

    1. Haha! Yeah, that's basically why I picked it.

The story behind The Opposite of Loneliness is so sad and I knew that whether I loved or hated it, either way it would be just as sad. I was hesitant to get invested in it. But once I started reading, I couldn't help it. That girl had a VOICE. And for her to be able to write so well, with such detail and to be able to inhabit such disparate characters equally convincingly - I can see what the big deal is and why she had such a shiny future ahead of her. So on the one hand that made everything more tragic, but on the other she's left behind something wonderful, and isn't that what we all wish we could do? Really?
I'm looking forward to July in books too! And reading another Toews and sharing thoughts on it. I rarely read with anyone else, so this'll be fun!

  2. Good month, some interesting titles there. Happy July reading!

    1. Thank you! Yeah, I had a pretty good mixture of different types of books last month, which made it pretty satisfying! You too!
