This week's Top Ten Tuesday on The Broke and the Bookish is: Top Ten Books for Readers Who Like Books About Reading. Okay, so obviously readers like books, but do they like reading about books and reading? I do. I love finding out how others approach my favourite pastime, and hearing how their relationship with the world of literature developed. To me, this is the best kind of love story because it nearly always has a happy ending.
Some of my faves:
The Uncommon Reader - Alan Bennett
Q's Legacy and 84, Charing Cross Road - Helene Hanff
Ex Libris - Anne Fadiman
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry - Gabrielle Zevin
Matilda - Roald Dahl
A few I'm looking forward to reading:
What We See When We Read - Peter Mendelsund
Leave Me Alone, I'm Reading - Maureen Corrigan
Shelf Life: Stories By the Book - Gary Paulsen
The Novel Cure: An A-Z of Literary Remedies - Ella Berthoud & Susan Elderkin
Why I Read - Wendy Lesser
There are a lot more, but these are the ones the top my list of favourites and my TBR! I'm always looking for more though, so if you know of any great books about readers, share in the comments!
I'd include The Book Thief in this category, and it is one of my all-time faves.
ReplyDeleteAh, Matilda is a great story for us bookworms! :-) I love reading about readers! Great choices, My TTT
ReplyDeleteI'm listening to "Matilda" on audio right now, narrated by Kate Winslet, and it is perfection. I've read it countless times, and it's absolutely one of my all time favorites of life. AJ Fikry will be coming up soon in the roster for me, as my IRL book club pick! I really wanted to do this weeks TTT but didn't have enough time to pull together a thoughtful list! I LOVE yours, and one I would add is "Mr Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore" - kind of a weird book, but I really enjoyed the audiobook version :)
ReplyDeleteOh my..."Leave Me Alone, I'm Reading"...with a title like that, you know I'll have to pick it up sooner or later :P
ReplyDeleteI love a good meta list! I can't believe I haven't read anything, but it looks like I need to fix that quick.
ReplyDeleteI love this list. I second "The Book Thief"'s inclusion and also add "Shadow of the Wind."
ReplyDeleteI liked this post so much it made my own TTT: http://shainareads.blogspot.com/2015/03/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-posts-for.html#comments
