The Book Blogger Test

The lovely Stacie over at Books Galore tagged me to participate in this post. It's basically a list of book-related questions on topics that I may or may not have mentioned on the blog before - mainly to help you guys get to know me even better! So without further ado, let's get started!

What are your top three book hates?
  1. Broken spines
  2. Bent or torn covers
  3. Missing pages
Describe your perfect reading spot.
Either in bed, with the pillows just right, or in a comfy armchair with a blanket and a purring kitten.

Tell us three book confessions.
  1. I have been known to buy a book I already have because I like a new edition better.
  2. I don't lend books out to people because I've had too many returned in bad shape. But I have a hard time telling non-bookish people this, so sometimes I'll lie and say I don't have a book or that I've already lent it out to someone else.
  3. I very often judge books by their covers.
When was the last time you cried while reading?

The Fault In Our Stars. Oh my god, the tears!

How many books are on your bedside?
Probably 10-20 - I use the shelves in my bedside table as extra bookshelves, plus the one or two I'm currently reading that sit on top. So yeah, lots.

What is your favourite snack while reading?
It's not exactly a snack - but the best thing while reading is a cup of rooibos chai tea. Yum.

Name three books you'd recommend to everyone.
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, The Fault In Our Stars by John Green and a recent addition - The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin (though it was a close call between this and The Silence of Bonaventure Arrow by Rita Leganski).

Show us a picture of your favourite bookshelf or bookcase.
Scroll up to the top of the page.... there ya go.

Write how much books mean to you in three words.
My best friends.

  1. I used to love laying on my bed at home (my mums) reading with my cat molly beside me, there is something soothing about it. Sadly I know longer have a cat, just a hyper toddler haha.

I forgot about The Fault In Our Stars for the last time I cried. I remember sobbing like a baby while reading it and only being able to describe it as 'so beautiful' between breaths to my partner. He had no idea what was going on haha Really going to have to reread that book soon

I really like all your answers, don't feel bad about not lending your books out. I don't either :p

    1. When I read TFIOS I was a mess - I was very glad I'd read it at home and in one day so I didn't have to show my (blotchy) face in public!

Oh phew, I feel better about it now! I've just had so many ruined, and I never really forgive the person for it. I let family borrow them sometimes - and my husband, of course - but that's it.

    2. Haha I read it at home too, like devoured it in a day so I didn't have to worry about it either. I did however have to explain to my other half, like I've said, and he could not understand why the hell I was crying. But he can't understand why I still ball my eyes out to Harry Potter so its ok haha :P.

I don't even like to lend them to family now as I've fallen out with a family member and they've kept my books. I did however give my Darren Shan books to my nephew when he started reading them. I got them growing up and even though they are some of my favourite books it doesn't bother me that he has them if he enjoys them. Although I did tell him that if he doesn't like them as the series goes on to give them back to me or the would be hell to pay haha.

  2. Love this! Thanks for tagging me! I will definitely answer those too! I also judge books by their covers and I don't lend them to others either. :)

  3. I love this tag! The Fault In Our Stars was most definitely my choice for 'book that recently made me cry'! And I love being in bed to read :)

    1. It's kind of a no-brainer if you've read it recently! That book destroyed me for like a week after reading it.

Also I don't know if you can see my reply to you or not, but please, please open up your blog comments to people who don't want to attach their g+ accounts to blog commenting! Please! Because I'd really love to comment on your posts, but I can't :(

  4. Aahhh this is fun! I think I'll do this post right now even though I just remembered I haven't done the other thing you tagged me in haha.

Bent covers are the most devastating thing in the world. I just bought Authority by Jeff VanderMeer and brought it in my backpack when I was moving from Chicago to Minnesota. The edges aren't doing so hot now, and I'm so sad.

    1. Haha! No pressure. Only if you're feelin' it.

That would make me cry. No joke.
